One of my great joys in the past few years has been to expand my work to include commissions. When I began "photo reimagining," I worked primarily with my own photographs. Even though I have a library of more than 40,000 photographs, I at least know where I've traveled and what images I might find within each photo album. While I continue to work with my own photos doing commissioned work, I've found that challenging myself to study and reimagine scenes, using photos with which I am not familiar, has been enormously satisfying and adds an entirely new level to my creativity.

The two examples of commissioned pieces on this page represent work using photographs from a couple who commissioned the pieces (MOUNTAINS RISING), and one that was created entirely from my extensive photo library (MARKETPLACE).

If you are looking to commission a piece of personalized artwork, I'd love to meet with you, in person or via FaceTime / Skype, to discuss what might be of interest (subject matter), where the piece will eventually hang, the size of the piece, the media, and if you're looking to include personal photographs, or to have me create something from my library.

Please see ENDORSEMENTS regarding the pieces on this page.

While I traditionally use my own photographs to create my collage works, the photos for this piece were (with the exception of the sky) all provided by Tom and Linda Kimbrell, who captured these magnificent images during some of their climbing adventures. The four primary photographs are of Karakoram Range, Pakistan, Fitzroy Massif, Argentina, Aconcagua, Argentina and the Alaska Range. The sky was a shot I captured when traveling to Antarctica several years ago… though the moon in the sky was taken from one of the Kimbrell’s images. This collage comprises twenty-three “cuttings” from the above photos, which were overlaid, repositioned, recolored, and then digitally painted using four different brush techniques.

In November of 2005 I had the amazing opportunity to travel in and around the area of Rajasthan, India; an adventure I’d longed for since childhood, when I found that my father had spent three years in India during World War II. To say that India is blessed with a wealth of photographic possibilities is a gross understatement. At every turn the images seemed to become more fascinating, vibrant, mystical. If I’d been shooting with a traditional camera, I would have bankrupted myself with developing film. Thankfully I had my digital Nikon…because I just couldn’t stop shooting.

, Hindi for MARKETPLACE, is a three-piece tryptic, consisting of “cuttings” from 104 photographs, out of the over 4,600 photos I took while in India. The collage actually has one more photo (making a total of 105 different photos used), which is the sky; a picture I snapped while in Antarctica. (The Antarctic skies are amazing!) After selecting the photos I wanted to use, I then overlaid, repositioned, recolored, and then digitally painted each layer using a total of seven different brush techniques.
